Teemu Rämö, a Finnish multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter, began his musical journey at the age of five with the piano. Growing up in a musically inclined family in a small town in Central Finland, his first love was classical music. He studied piano at the local music school, where he developed a strong technical foundation and well-rounded musicianship.
By the age of 15, Teemu had completed his main instrument studies at the music school and was at a crossroads—continuing his classical path at a conservatory or exploring new musical directions. Two years earlier, he had picked up the guitar, and despite its stark contrast to the piano, it became his new passion. His first rock concert, featuring the Finnish band Poets of the Fall, sparked his inspiration, and soon he was playing along to their songs.
At 16, Teemu discovered guitar virtuosos like Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Paul Gilbert. His curiosity led him to absorb their techniques and incorporate them into his own evolving style. Around the same time, his interest expanded beyond rock to blues, jazz, Latin, and fusion after switching his primary instrument to guitar at music school.
After high school, Teemu attended Otava Folk High School, where he gained hands-on experience in recording, mixing, the music business, and songwriting from industry professionals. His final project was writing, recording, mixing, and mastering the song That’s Enough, which he released on SoundCloud.
In 2014, he began studying Music Pedagogy at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, where he started writing his debut album during his first year. In 2017, he spent a semester at the Danish Royal Academy of Music as an exchange student. A year later, he returned for a master’s degree in rhythmic guitar, graduating in August 2020. During his studies, he performed in various ensembles, from duos to big bands and guitar sextets.
Teemu released his debut album, Time to Define, in autumn 2017, which he wrote, arranged, performed, mixed, and mastered himself. The album showcased his diverse influences, both harmonically and technically. Two years later, he released his second album, Isolation, which took a modern approach to metal and marked his first deep dive into songwriting with vocals.
For his master’s thesis, Teemu explored alternative tunings by writing an entire album using five different guitar tunings. The result was his third album, Truthseeker.
In 2022, he released the Fight Against The World EP, written and recorded during the pandemic. This was his first EP recorded in multiple remote locations, including his hometown of Joutsa, Finland. He later performed the EP’s songs acoustically in Denmark before beginning work on new material.
After years of researching and writing songs with alternative tunings, Teemu launched his hybrid guitar and songwriting course, Songwriting Course for the Modern Guitarist, designed to help musicians start songwriting or experiment with various tunings.
In 2024, Teemu made the pivotal decision to leave his office job, move back to Finland, and fully commit to his music career. In February 2025, he released Ahead of the Storm, the first single from his upcoming concept album.
Currently, Teemu is working as a freelance musician while continuing to develop his unique style. His playing blends modern guitar techniques—from fluid tapping and hybrid-picked legato to precise sweep picking and expressive bends. His rhythm playing is equally versatile, shaped by his experience across multiple genres.
